Date and place of birth:

15 September 1941 in the settlement of Arbat, Kushvinsky District, Sverdlovsk Oblast.

Education:

He graduated from the Faculty of Economics, Leningrad Agricultural Institute.

Viktor Zubkov holds a PhD in Economics.

Professional experience and political career:

Before joining government bodies in the Leningrad (St. Petersburg) region in 1985, he had worked for twenty years as an agricultural manager. In 1993, he joined the federal tax service, becoming First Deputy Finance Minister in 2001 and Head of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service (anti-money-laundering body) in 2004. He served as Russia's Prime Minister from 2007 to 2008, when he was appointed First Deputy Prime Minister, the position he held until 2012. Mr Zubkov has been Chairman of the Gazprom Board of Directors since 2008, and also holds the position of Presidential Special Representative for Cooperation with the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. He holds a doctorate in economics.
