On behalf of the InterAction Council, we wish to express our sincere condolences to Madame Mkapa and the people of Tanzania on the death of our dear friend and colleague, President Mkapa.
President Mkapa had a thoughtful approach in his tireless pursuit of peace and prosperity for all the people of Africa. A leader in innovating new approaches for the economy of Tanzania as President, he consistently spoke to the InterAction Council in favour of economic and social justice for Africa and the underdeveloped world as a whole. His was a soft-spoken yet powerful voice for those too frequently ignored by the international system.
During this time of global uncertainty, we will miss President Mkapa’s wisdom and warmth, but the Council will continue its work on the issues that are central to his great legacy.
