Members of the InterAction Council met to discuss the State of the World at their 39th Annual Plenary Meeting in Dublin, Ireland. On the 7th May 2025, threats to global security and turbulence of the world economy and trade were discussed. Potential solutions were explored on the 8th May, including responding to priorities of the Existential Security Threats Board, revisiting the InterAction Councils’ Universal Declaration of Human Responsibilities and enhancing the application of technology going forward.

On the 8th May, Honourable Bertie Ahern, Co-chair of the InterAction Council, convened the session on Global Existential Security Threats, who welcomed the role of One Young World in advancing this initiative, stating that: “These talented and courageous young leaders bring energy and hope for the future of humankind. As the Global Youth Security Council develops, we look forward to further youth organisations and partners joining in.”

President Olusegun Obasanjo, Co-chair of the InterAction Council, reflected that “Peace, common security, equity, inclusive society and shared prosperity must go together.”

Presentations by the Global Youth Security Council of One Young World, were shared at the session on Global Existential Security Threats, convened by Bertie Ahern, Co-chair of the InterAction Council. Ella Robertson McKay, Managing Director of One Young World, who co-chaired the session, emphasised that: “One Young World has always worked to convene leaders from a broad range of partners so it's fantastic that the InterAction Council is bringing this group together, to benefit from the wisdom and experience of the Council.”

One Young World announced a proposal to develop a leadership academy on Youth Led Solutions to Existential Threats. While the World Academy of Art and Science are supporting Y-EXIST, a collaborative initiative to amplify advocacy and mobilise youth leaders into action for preventing existential threats.

With the establishment of the Global Youth Security Council for Existential Threats in 2023, a partnership by One Young World and the InterAction Council, young leaders have been at the forefront of transforming planetary security for everyone. Furthermore, Planetary Leaders are instrumental in catalysing innovative solutions to advance Plans for Peace, the Planet and People as part of Strategy X-EXIST - a key objective of the Existential Security Threats - EXIST Board.
